This post is a little late, but here is a link to a symposium I recently helped out at which showcased international inclusive arts. Yesterday was a fantastic day at the Hoxton Arches and I'm thrilled to say it was a huge success. Thanks so much to all the partners, organisers, volunteers and visitors for taking part. Below are a few pictures of the day, but I will be updating 'The Dugout' section of the website soon which will include interviews, images and videos from the day.
Saw this in the Guardian today, and I think its really nifty. It's an interactive view from the newly opened 'Shard' building launched by The Guardian Newspaper. If you click on the link below, not only does it give you a panoramic view from the top of the building, but it also lists all of Londons best sites, big and small. There are two things I like about this online project, first is the interactive and collaborative nature of its design, it asks us to: Now tell us about London's lesser known landmarks, the hidden treasures that deserve proper recognition and the second is the fantastic soundscapes capturing the noises of the city from tweeting birds and sirens in Victoria Park to Deptford Market's hustle and banter. Good stuff!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/interactive/2013/feb/01/view-from-top-shard-london-interactive Thanks to Greenhorn Short Film Festival for helping put together this years Dugout Cinema Room! With less than a week to go, you can now check out what films we have to offer at the festival.
The annual Taylor Wessing photographers portrait prize is currently exhibiting at the National Portrait Galley, and I was so happy to see the beautiful portrait of Annalie (Right Image) shortlisted! Annalie volunteers on reception at Barnet Mencap where I am currently running an arts project. You look amazing! I'm pleased to announce that Melanie Maddison, creator of Colouring Outside the Lines will be running the Zine Table at The Dugout. Check it out here!http://cotlzine.blogspot.co.uk/ To celebrate The Dugout Festival we’ll be making a zine featuring contributions from as many attendees as we can on the day – please join in. However you wish to make your mark in the zine (writing, drawing, collage, etc), everything is welcome. The zine will be put together after the festival and will be available to download for free via The Dugout website, so don't forget to sign up to receive news on it! The zine making will be led by Melanie Maddison (Leeds, UK) who has been producing zines since 2004, and has created work such as ‘Colouring Outside the Lines’, a zine featuring interviews with contemporary female artists. Melanie has also self-published the zines, ‘Shape & Situate: Posters of Inspirational European Women’, 'Taking Cultural Production Into Our Own Hands', 'Reassess Your Weapons', 'With Arms Outstretched', 'UK Ladyfest Artwork Zine', and 'I'm Not Waiting: Doing It Yrself Now', as well as writing for www.pikaland.com Melanie has curated and been involved with many zine-related art exhibitions over the years, including ones at The Women’s Library, London; Gallery II, Bradford; Space Station 65, London; Victoria Baths, Manchester; and The New Museum, New York. Today I went to visit a great little exhibition at the Pleasance Theatre near Caledonian Road. The exhibition brings together 4 female contemporary artists all using their practice to take aspects from the recognisable world and transform them into something strange. I particularly liked the set of Clown paintings by artist Flora Bradwell, who's series depicts the last survivors of a fictional circus dynasty 'The Infamous Pyramid Gang' as they go about their daily lives in Haringey. Good stuff, and it's free. Greenhorn Short Film Festival is happy to announce the call for submissions for a short film programme to be screened at The Dugout, an affiliated Inclusive Women's Arts Festival. The screening is on Saturday 2nd March 2013 at the Hoxton Arches 11.30am – 5.30pm. The film programme with run alongside a day of inclusive workshops, exhibitions, stalls and collaborative projects. The Dugout is organised and run collaboratively by women with and without learning disabilities and Barnet Mencap.
